To celebrate the annual 9-day Vegetarian Festival, one of Phuket’s most cherished religious traditions, Banyan Tree Phuket’s Thai restaurant Saffron has rolled out a special vegetarian set dinner menu, featuring many meatless, yet delicious choices. Highlights include Khong Wang Ruam Jay, a mixed platter of corn cake, wing bean salad, papaya salad, spring rolls and potato curry puff, yellow curry with tofu, and sweet banana jelly. To enhance the experience even further, the menu can also be combined with a one-hour personalized tour of the island’s festivities. In honour of the Nine Emperor Gods, the festival commences annually on the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar and is celebrated across many Asian countries. Those devoted to this ancient practice observe a strict vegetarian or even vegan diet throughout the nine days to cleanse their spirit and make merit. Through vivid displays, the festival is marked by sacred rituals performed at Chinese shrines which are believed to bring good luck. The set menu is available until October 15th, and is priced at B1,500 net per person. Combined, the tour can be booked one day in advance any day after the vegetarian menu, the price is B3,500 net per person.
